How, when, and why we collect information

The internet is a scary place, and we believe strongly in protecting the privacy of the people we serve. This Privacy Policy describes how WorkMoney treats the personal information we collect through WorkMoney websites and what we do with that information. By visiting these websites, you are accepting the privacy practices described here in this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy applies to information collected online through these websites and other websites and accounts maintained by WorkMoney.

Visiting our websites without putting any information in

You can view content on the websites without providing any personal information. When you enter the websites, they automatically collect technical information like your browser and operating system type and IP address to optimize your browsing experience on the websites and to track aggregate website usage using tools like Google Analytics. If cookies are enabled on your computer, the websites also use a “session” cookie to identify you while you are on the websites. This session cookie gets deleted after you finish using the websites and close your browser.

Using third-party cookies and advertising data

While using these websites, advertising partners like Google and Facebook may deposit anonymized third-party cookies with your browser to customize online advertisements as you surf across the internet. (That’s how when you browse for shoes online one day those shoes show up in ads on every other site you visit for a week.) The websites also use Google Analytics’ Display Advertising features, which allow for Demographics and Interest-Based Reporting on website visitors in aggregate, and advertising based on Google Analytics behavioral data.

All of these features are enabled without transmitting any personally identifiable information to the vendors placing the ads. As a visitor to our websites, you can also opt out further by disabling cookies on your browser entirely, clearing the cookies after visiting the websites (you can usually do that from your browser settings), or visiting the consumer choices behavioral advertising opt-out site.

Email mailing list, SMS updates, and phone calls

You can give us your contact information if you want to hear from us. If you share your contact information, we can put you on our email mailing list and send you updates by SMS text or occasionally by phone call, either with an auto-dialer or in person. By sharing your information, you are giving your express consent to have us contact you.

Activities requiring your information

Certain activities on our websites — for example, getting an estimate of how much money you should be getting for your child tax credit — require you to enter some information about you. If you choose to share your tax status or zip code or email address, we use what is called a “cookie” that stores information to make it easier for you to login when you come back to our websites, but none of your personal information is stored in that cookie. You may also be asked to provide other information to participate in other activities through our websites.

Usage information

The websites may record information about your visits, like when you use the sites, the areas of the sites you click on and/or participate in, the tags you search for, and whether or not you subscribe to the RSS feed. If we set up the websites so you can register to create a personal account and then log into it, then if you do register and log in, we may associate the information about your visits with the account and track that information in a cookie that would not be automatically deleted when you close your browser. We may use pixel tags and/or trackable links in HTML-based emails sent to our users to track which emails are opened and/or clicked on by recipients.

We do not and would never knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.

Use of your personal information

WorkMoney collects personal information on our websites to help us serve our visitors better. We may share the personal information that we collect with other vendors that perform services on our behalf, and with like-minded organizations and partners, but we will not sell people’s personal information to any third party trying to sell anything. With respect to the personal information we do share with third parties, we will not share originator opt-in data and consent with third parties, other than vendors performing services on our behalf, and only for the limited purpose of providing those services.

We will use your contact information to communicate with you about WorkMoney’s activities and offerings unless you opt-out from receiving such messages. We may also use your contact information for administrative purposes, such as notifying you of major website changes, sending messages related to actions you have taken on our sites, or for customer service purposes. Although we hope you’ll find these communications informative and useful, if you don’t, you can always unsubscribe, either by following the simple instructions included in email or SMS text messages or otherwise by getting in touch to let us know you’d rather not hear from us anymore.

When you send email or other communications to us, we may keep those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests and improve our services.

We use both your personally identifying information and certain non-personally-identifying information (like anonymous usage data, IP addresses, browser type, clickstream data, etc.) to improve the quality of your user experience and the design of the websites and to create new features, functionality, and services by storing, tracking, and analyzing user behavior, preferences, trends, and actions.

We may be required to disclose user information pursuant to lawful requests, such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws. If we receive a subpoena requesting information about you and if you have provided us with your email address, we will try to notify you of the subpoena at the email address that you have provided. Additionally, we may share account or other information when we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity perpetrated through our websites or using Workmoney.org to prevent bodily harm, to enforce our policies, or to protect the rights, property or safety of visitors to our sites, our members, the public or WorkMoney.
