Description
Ronald McDonald Houses of San Antonio (RMHC) provides a safe and comfortable place to stay for critically ill and injured children who are receiving treatment from any one of San Antonio’s medical facilities and their families. Our Ronald McDonald House provides a temporary “home-away-from-home” for families of critically ill, hospitalized children and supports efforts that improve children’s health within our region.

We provide a place for families to call home so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little to no cost. Our Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child – not where they can afford to stay or where they will lay their head at night to rest. We believe that when a child is hospitalized the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed.

Families can expect:

- A private bedroom that can hold a family of four (bathroom is included in the room)
- Bed, bath linens and toilet paper
- Laundry facilities and detergent
- A full kitchen so that families can buy their own groceries and prepare their own food
- A large dining area
- A large family and living room
- A recreation room and an outdoor play area
- A meditation room
- A chore that each family is responsible for each day

All families share our large community kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is stocked with basic kitchen items, including: pots; pans; dishes; glassware and some basic food items. It is important to note that we do not provide food, toiletry items or transportation, although taxi vouchers are available, with 1 voucher per day per family.

RMHC of San Antonio relies on donors and the community for support of daily operations. Donations are accepted from our guests but only if they desire and are able to. No family is ever turned away due to the lack of finances.

We admit families 24 hours a day, everyday, however, a family must be referred to us by a medical facility in San Antonio by which their child is receiving treatment. We do accept referrals from any medical facility in the San Antonio area. The family will be put on a waiting list for their arrival date and rooms will be assigned on a first-come basis.

Guardian House protects children in San Antonio and surrounding counties whose parents are going through divorce, separation or family conflict by providing monitored exchanges, supervised visitation, parenting education and counseling.

Guardian House is a non-profit organization, founded in 1997, that is dedicated to helping children and parents in divorce situations redefine and restructure their families during this time transition. Through supervised visitation and monitored exchange services, our center provides a safe place for children to maintain a relationship with both parents.

Our programs target children whose parents are trapped in conflict and often at their worst; all of the children seen are “at risk” and they range from birth to 17 years of age. Our client’s parents are those whom the courts have determined that without intervention may be at risk of emotional abuse, physical abuse or neglect of their children.

Guardian House provides services for all parents and primary caregivers by offering parent education and co-parenting programs, as well as counseling and support groups.
